Garlic is easy to use and tastes delicious! It is added to many soups, sauces and dressings and packs quite a few health benefits as well.  Once roasted it can be spread onto toast topped with avocado or whipped into mashed potatoes or hummus spreads.  It can be used in dips or whipped with soft cheeses to make wonderful appetizers.

Garlic is highly nutritious but has very little cholesterol which makes it a great addition to many dishes. It was also well sought after in ancient times for its health and medicinal properties. Any vegetable low in cholesterol but packed with flavour is good in my books!

Roasted Garlic Tips

  • Cut the top of the garlic bulb off just so the individual cloves are showing.
  • Drizzle each bulb with olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • Experiment with different herbs in each packet! Thyme, Rosemary, or try seasoning salt or lemon!
  • Wrap with foil leaving a “vent” in the top for the steam to escape.
  • If you want to save all the tips that were cut off just take the peel off and place all the tips in a vented piece of foil, season the same and roast them along with the bulbs!
  • Roast on a baking sheet or in an oven safe dish to catch any drips.  No one likes cleaning an oven…no one!
  • I bake it at 400 degrees F but if you have something in the oven at a lower temperature just place them in for slightly longer than listed.

This simple recipe will show you just how quick and easy it is to make roasted garlic!

Preparing the Garlic:

First peel off the first few layers of the garlic bulb leaving just enough to hold the cloves together.  Next cut 1/4″ off the top of the bulb exposing the individual cloves and place the garlic bulb on a piece of aluminum foil. Drizzle each bulb with olive oil and sprinkle it with salt (I used kosher salt) and pepper.  Wrap the foil up around the bulb leaving a small space that the steam can escape and place the foil packets on a baking sheet or in a oven safe dish and into the oven.   The garlic is done when it is starting to turn golden brown and is soft and spreadable!
